Las Vegas

This page will be a chronicle of our trip to Las Vegas. It will get added as and when possible.

Day 1

We left for Vegas on Tuesday, the 27th of December, 2005 by America West. Quick, short, direct flight to Vegas and we reached late at night, but we quickly discovered that the phrase “late at night” has no meaning in Las Vegas. We had rented a car so that we could visit the Hoover Dam. Driving around in Vegas is not fun. The initial scene from Office Space, where Peter watches a disabled man walk faster than he can drive, describes driving in Las Vegas pretty accurately.

We drove from the airport to the south end of the Strip and then drove all the way to the north end of the Strip, just to take a look around. The time was around 11:30pm, but in the Strip it looked like daytime. The flashing lights from the Casinos and the billboards were really painful to the eyes. The billboards in particular irritated our vision, due to the really bright and fast moving images that were being projected on them. When the billboards changed from one ad to another, there was this bright explosion of lights that made me lose focus while driving. We decided that the best thing to do at that point was to go to the hotel and hit the bed. We are no longer used to staying up beyond midnight and all the lights in that place did not help at all.

The following photos show Las Vegas night life, although they were actually taken the next day, 28th December.
